Rights of Women and Girls – National Public Inquiry into Family Violence
To this day many women and girls across the Commonwealth still experience violations of their rights in the form of harassment and discrimination, gender-based violence, trafficking, and unequal access to services, justice and education. These violations can occur despite the adoption of laws and conventions designed to protect women and girls.
The National Human Rights Institution of Samoa conducted a national public inquiry into family violence. The subsequent report indicated that family violence is affecting almost all families in Samoa, with extremely high numbers of people experiencing extreme violence in their lifetime.
